Build up your confidence at your work place

Posted by | December 8, 2016 | Blog, Career Tips

Are we born with self confidence? No, a lot of factors depend on how we grew up and what our surroundings were. As we grow older we become a little more self reliant and life gives us many lessons to learn from. Some of them are good and some not so good. One thing is true for sure that these experiences teach us a lot and we learn to deal with a majority of situations that arise in our life. Interestingly, our personal experiences which shape our personality will also shape how we conduct ourselves at the workplace.

Being a competent team member is crucial to be a winner at the workplace. How does one become an achiever? Confidence is the key. Self confidence is not a magic formula that one stirs in a glass and drinks. It can be achieved by taking small steps to become poised.

Assess your competencies

Write down what you are good at. See how you can use them to do your job better and where they can be used.

Be the change you wish to see.

Choose someone who works closely with you. Work on getting feedback from your peers and seniors. Keep a tab on how you have displayed strengths each week. Keep working on a new thing that you have learnt till you have mastered it.

Speak your mind

Most of us know instinctively when we have a great idea or when we have an interesting solution for a problem. This does not mean that you speak whatever comes to your mind. But, start by taking small steps, once people warm up to your contributions, you will feel empowered to say things more confidently.

Increase your knowledge

Make books your best friends. There are a lot of resources on the internet in the form of blogs, videos and seminars. Attend more talks given by experts. There is nothing comparable to being a well read and a well researched person. It’s easy to go overboard with new knowledge but remember that there are better people than you. Confidence grows when you act on what you know and can find solutions to typical problems.

Finally be with people who will boost your confidence. Find people who encourage you regularly. It doesn’t matter if it is a small thing. Most importantly drop people who are caustic and negative. These are the ones who will not let you grow ever.

Make Impression on Your First Job

Posted by | November 29, 2016 | Blog, Career Tips

First impressions are last impressions, as the saying goes but it would be alright to say that first impressions are LASTING impressions. The world as we see it today is very glitzy and all that, which makes a lot of noise or shines easily, stands out! Does the same go for people? Do only over eager; extroverts get an opportunity to make good impressions? No, everyone can make a good impression; all that is required is a little help, some common sense and lots of awareness.

The professional world has its own set of challenges, so find a mentor who will help you with the wisdom that they have gained. Here are some more tips on making a great impression:

Be a good listener

As a person who is a new entrant in the work arena, one must listen more, take in as much information and try to learn from that. The more one listens, one learns.

Develop Confidence

Learn to keep pushing yourself to volunteer for new jobs, even if you fail, you would have learnt something. Take initiative, ask questions.

Dress appropriately

Don’t be confused about what to wear to work, or what not to wear. If the organization has a uniform, it is easy. There ensure that you wear your uniform clean, tidy and presentable at all times. If the dress code is casual then see what your seniors are wearing, it is safe to follow that. Don’t be flashy and something which gets you attention for the wrong reasons.

Be Busy

A times when you have a relatively easier day, do not assume that it is ok to sit in the canteen and take endless brakes. Spend your time wisely, learn something new, research. Ask your manager if you can work on something new.

Be Innovative

Do you have some unique skills? Find those, see how you can map those to meet the requirements at your workplace. Do you have a fresh viewpoint on a troublesome problem that has been keeping your managers awake? Can you do something more efficiently? List them and work on them.

Companies give ample opportunities to people who are willing and who want to walk that extra mile. Walk it, make that fantastic impression.

Prepare your 3d modelling show reel

Posted by | August 5, 2016 | Blog

Prepare your 3d modelling show reel

Creating a 3dmodelling show reel to wow your audience requires hard work, some patience and good edits. The key to a great show reel is quality visuals. Your animation has to be top of the line and not average. Your artwork has to be impressive so that you are considered for a job. The above statement is the mantra to live by. If this falters, no amount of lists of your work on your CV will impress the recruiter.

Here are some tips:

 1.   Fancy Work NOT Fancy Titles

Spend a considerable time working on real content and not creating fancy titles, or credits. Don’t’ just add “stuff” to pack a show reel. Take that time to review your existing work, and polish it make it slick and something to reckon with.

 2.   Check the length

Do not stuff the show reel with long credits. If you do not have GOOD work, then treat your work as a teaser. Keep it short and snazzy, enough to get people’s curiosity.

3.   The close should be as good as the start

Yes, common sense and all the experts will say, open your show reel with a bang. That does not mean your close can be something you ignore. Close with something which is second best.

 4.   What did YOU do? – Make that clear

Student show reels predictably team efforts, and it’s frequently indistinguishable what the candidate contributed. Be ready to explain what you contributed. Attach a detail of where you have contributed as a PDF or Word document.

5.   Keeping things SIMPLE is always a GOOD idea

In the endeavor to showcase your prowess as somebody creative and tech savvy, many aspirants forget that simplicity can also show your expertise. Adding too many aspects to your show reel might just side track you from the real cause.

  6.   Customise your reel for the prospect

What is the quality of your work is a deciding factor to some extent but do remember that most recruiters are also looking for somebody that fits well with their particular technique. While developing your reel, have a ready to refer list ready. What is your “dream company” what types of pieces will help you get a job there.

 7.   Research

When looking for work, this goes without saying that investing time in research is a good idea. See what kind of work a prospective company is doing. What are your skill sets? Can you match it with theirs? All these questions will help you to not just prepare a fantastic show reel but also, prepare well for the next step an interview.

Going for animation interview: tips to make animation portfolio

Building a resumes for an animation job can be a little challenging. This is mainly because one cannot really demonstrate animation skills on paper. It has to be seen in your demo reel and portfolio. A resume will mainly present a record of where you’ve worked and your roles. A standard resume is a good beginning. Here are a few tips for making a good animation resume.

1.    Gather all the information that you think is relevant.

If you are a student or a fresh graduate, this step will help a lot. To make up for lack of experience, you’ll have to rely more on your demo reel and portfolio to sell yourself as a possible candidate. Use your resume to showcase internships and ensure to make sure to list everything that you did there. Write about your awards, recognition, special mentions.

2.    Don’t distract

A creative person can get tempted to turn the resume into a graphic design piece. If this experiment goes bad, it will only look as a mess and ooze unprofessionalism.

3.    Never go over two pages.

A student resume should be one page; a career resume should be two pages. If you can’t fit your experience in that space, you’re giving too much detail or focusing on things that don’t matter. Save something for the interview.

Once you have gathered the basic information for your resume, it is time to look at your Animation Portfolio:

  • Start planning for the portfolio much before you actually start looking for a job
  • Put your recent and best work in your portfolio
  • Put your best material first.
  • Tag your portfolio and demo reel with your name, current phone number and email address.
  • Label every page in your portfolio with your name and contact information.
  • Show a variety of the work that you have done.
  •  Do create a digital portfolio also. Your URL and email address should be as simple and professional as possible.
  • Versatility in your portfolio will garner more interest.
  • Organize your work by type, for example: game assets, illustrations, storyboards, etc. This will also show your clients that will show you are efficient and organized.

A well known animation college like P.A. Inamdar College of Visual Effects Design and Art, Pune also teach the students so that they can prepare their animation show reel or animation portfolio by their selves. You should also search for top animation institution & get the best animation learnings.

Take care of these tips to ensure that you enhance your chances getting a great animation job in India or abroad and a fantastic career in animation.
